Phil McShane

Since he spent summers in his youth working for his grandfather’s HVAC business, Phil McShane has had a passion for mechanical contracting. As a young man, he served the US Marine Corps Forces Reserve and earned a BS in Industrial Technology from Eastern Michigan University.

In 1997, he founded our company, growing it into a business that builds nationally recognized projects with mechanical contracting and professional engineer licenses that span the U.S. Phil is deeply engaged with our project team, and leverages his rich industry knowledge and mechanical engineering experience to deliver value to our clients and project owners.

Phil leads McShane Mechanical with a commitment to principles that goes beyond the work. His influence extends far and wide within our industry, and he holds a number of positions serving industry organizations. He has served as a trustee and chairman of the Local Joint Apprentice Training Center for 18 years. He was instrumental in developing a concentrated training program that provided paid learning for industry apprentices and a format that ensured future generations of apprentices received the knowledge required to be effective HVAC tradesmen.

He currently acts as a local pension trustee, providing guidance and leadership to maintain solid fiscal policies that ensure the security of the Sheet Metal Workers' retirement funds. Phil is also the current President of the Detroit SMACNA chapter, where he leads labor and management negotiations and collective bargaining agreements, and he is an active member of the International Training Institute.
